Heavenly Valley's ski runs can be seen quite clearly, as can just a bit of Job's Peak on the right.

The early days of August 2023, a group of our high school classmates from Bacolod City High School gathered at Sacramento, California, specifically in the home of classmate Edith or known to most of us as Joy.

While in Edith's home, the classmates savored the Plotner's hospitality and set a day to visit Lake Tahoe, the world-famous attraction on the Sierra Nevada on the Western United States. Lake Tahoe straddles on the border between California and Nevada.

Lake Tahoe was formed millions of years ago, and in the early days of the United States, has become a vacation spot for the locals as well as visitors from other states and countries.

Lake Tahoe is visited by 10-20 million tourists each year. (bing.com)

How to get to Lake Tahoe?

Here's a guide from tripsavvy or tripsavvy.com - - - - How to Get to (and Around) Lake Tahoe (tripsavvy.com)

By car: If you’re staying in South Lake Tahoe (or Stateline, which is what the town is called on the Nevada side,) you can probably get around without a car. There are plenty of taxis and ride shares, and many bars and restaurants are within walking distance of hotels. If you're on the North Shore, you’ll almost certainly need your own vehicle. Public transportation exists—but it’s not a thorough or quick system, and it doesn’t run late into the night.

To drive to the North Shore from San Francisco, take Highway 80 the entire way. It takes about three and a half hours to get to Truckee, and from there, you can get to most of the other towns in the North Shore in about 25 minutes. If you’re leaving from Sacramento, Highway 80 is also the quickest route.

To get to South Lake Tahoe from Sacramento, take Highway 50 east. It takes roughly two hours without traffic. If you’re coming from San Francisco, take Highway 80 to Sacramento before heading east on Highway 50.

Rental cars can be easily arranged at both the Sacramento and Reno airports. The rental car terminal at the Reno airport is directly across from baggage claim, making rental pickup a very quick process.

Getting Around Lake Tahoe

Public Transit: Public transportation is available in South Lake Tahoe/Stateline and the North Shore, although it's more extensive in the former. In South Lake Tahoe, the Tahoe Transportation System operates a bus route that runs from Julie Lane in California to Herbig Park in Nevada. The bus starts picking up passengers at 5:50 a.m. and makes its last stop at 8:28 p.m.

On the North Shore, visitors will want to take the Tahoe Area Regional Transit, more commonly known as TART. The bus route goes from Soda Springs (west of Tahoe) to Incline Village in Nevada and Homewood on the west shore of the lake. The system can be very convenient for some locations, especially during periods of heavy traffic, but it can also take quite a long time to commute if you need to switch buses. Check the route and map in advance.

Shuttles: Nearly every major ski resort provides a free shuttle to and from the slopes. Considering traffic can be quite bad in the winter, it’s a great idea to take them whenever possible. Shuttles are offered from Northstar California Resort, Heavenly Mountain Resort, Squaw Valley/Alpine MeadowsDiamond Peak, and Homewood Ski Resort.

Where to stay at Lake Tahoe?

I searched the web to find the best place to stay in Lake Tahoe. Since I am a Touristang Pobre, I would rather visit it in a day, then go back home to my niece's house, or friend's house, like classmate Edith, o' di ba?

But for the sake of helping, you find a good place to stay in Lake Tahoe, let me enumerate some hotels where you can stay, according to Miss Tourist Dot Com.

According to Miss Tourist Dot Com here are the best places where you can find the best hotel accommodations and closer to activities for first timers like - hiking, biking, etcetera. There are also a collection of bars and restaurants in the area.

For first timers, Miss Tourist suggests - South Lake Tahoe.

1. South Lake Tahoe
2. Incline Village for Outdoor Activities
3. Carson City for history lovers
4. Stateline is the best place to stay for couples.
5. Olympic Valley or Palisade, aka Squaw Valley for Winter Sports
6. Tahoe City is the best place to stay for families. Places like Commons Beach, Marina and the Truckee River, among others.

There's Edith, Helen, Edna and her son Gerald, and J. J. Yasay on a lake cruiser named M.S. Dixie.

And they did not miss the Casino. Bisan adlaw ang Casino abierto, lol.

J. J. Yasay.

This is an islet in the middle of the lake. If panoramic view, this dot of islet lends beauty to the whole Lake Tahoe vista.

Oh, here it is. Thanks, Joy, for this shot.

Thanks classmate, Edith for your beautifully captured photos.

So, was Lake Tahoe the playground of the rich and famous? Yes, since 1900's the shores of Lake Tahoe were the playground of the rich and famous, specifically, the stars of Hollywood.
