Introduction

Tagaytay is one of the cities in the Philippines that I love to stay whenever I have the chance to be in Manila.   I always enjoy sitting on the "veranda" of my hotel, drink a cup of coffee, smoke a cigarette, and reflect on the beauty of nature and of life.  One of the tourist attractions in Tagaytay is the Taal Volcano and Taal Lake.  I took this photo of Taal Lake and Taal Volcano at the window of my Airbnb at The Wind Residences Tagaytay.

According to Wikipedia, "The crater lake on Volcano Island is the largest lake on an island in a lake on an island in the world.[11] Moreover, this lake contains Vulcan Point, a small rocky island that projects from the surface of the crater lake, which was the remnant of the old crater floor that is now surrounded by the 2-kilometer (1.2 mi) wide lake, now referred to as the Main Crater Lake. Vulcan Point is often cited as the largest third-order island (an island in a lake on an island) in the world, though this is also claimed to be an unnamed Canadian island located within Victoria Island.[12][13]
Therefore, Taal has an island within a lake, that is on an island within a lake, that is on an island within the sea: Vulcan Point Island is within Main Crater Lake, which is on Volcano Island, which is within Taal Lake, which is on the main Philippine Island Luzon, which is within the western Pacific Ocean."  (Source: Wikipedia.)

I have been to Tagaytay before.  I stayed at the Estancia Resort Hotel during my first visit to the city.  The mayor at that time was Francis Tolentino who invited us to a 16 Chinese Lauriat Lunch at The China Palace in Tagaytay Highlands.  There, we experienced riding the newly installed cable cars. Isn't that awesome?

My second visit to Tagaytay was during a tour of the CALABARZON where we stayed overnight in a city government-owned hostel of Tagaytay City.  Tagaytay is a Character City in the Philippines.

Photos were taken inside the condominium unit.

This is the receiving room with a sofa bed?
There is a kitchen and a small dining table for two or four.

There is also an electric stove, a refrigerator or fridge, a coffee maker, and a microwave oven. A set of China, crystal, and silverware as well as crockery are available for your use.

Let's go back to my room. This is the veranda that overlooks the main highway of Tagaytay City and also the famous Taal Volcano in Taal Lake.

By this time, the construction of this additional building must have been completed.

This is the Wind Residences building where my Airbnb is located.

Cousins Rose and Mar were my travel buddies here in Tagaytay.

Tagaytay has a cool climate making it a favorite weekend getaway of residents from the neighboring towns and cities most especially those coming from Metro Manila.

Although it is not officially under the local government's jurisdiction of Tagaytay City, Taal Volcano is the most famous landmark in Tagaytay.  Taal Volcano is, in fact, part of the two municipalities of Batangas.  The northern part of Taal Volcano is under the jurisdiction of the Municipality of Talisay, Batangas while the southern part is under the jurisdiction of the Municipality of San Nicolas.

What to do in Tagaytay City

There are a lot of activities that you can do while in Tagaytay City.

  • Visit the market for cheap fruits, vegetables, meat products, and other food supplies you may need if you stay in Airbnb.
  • Bar and Restaurants hopping. If you are going to stay longer in Tagaytay there are a lot of bar and restaurants where you can eat or dine. A wide variety of menus are available in these restaurants mostly located along the highway or roads in the city.
  • Visit the Picnic Grove and experience the Zip Line.
  • Ride the Gondola.
  • Take a leisurely walk at the Peoples's Park.
  • Appreciate art at the Museo Orlina.
  • Drop by the Puzzle Mansion.
  • Take IG Photos at Fantasy World.
  • Visit the Palace in the Sky and experience a breathtaking view of the city.
  • Arrange a tour of the Tagaytay Highlands and experience riding their cable cars.
  • Have a fine dining at The China Palace restaurant in Tagaytay Highlands.
  • Eat at Mahogany Beef Market.
  • Visit the Ilog Maria Bee Farm.
  • Spend a time at the Paradizoo and experience Filipino Farm life.
  • Trek the Taal Volcano Lake. Be sure you coordinate this trek with the City Tourism Office and the Phivolcs.
  • Enjoy the native refreshments like Halo-Halo, Banana and Mais con Hielo, Iskrambol, and Flavored Ice Candies, among others.

Where to stay?

There are so many hotels to choose from. Examples of these hotels and lodging  houses are the following:

  • Taal Vista Hotel
  • The Lake Hotel Tagaytay
  • One Tagaytay Place Hotel Suites
  • Summit Ridge Tagaytay
  • Lee Boutique Tagaytay
  • La Bella Boutique Hotel
  • RedDoorz Plus @ The Ridge Tagaytay City

Since hotel accommodations are expensive in Tagaytay City, you can search for an alternative place to stay by looking for an Airbnb on the internet. This is what I did. I spend less than 2K for my overnight stay.

So, if you are interested to take a tour of Taal Volcano, your jump-off point is the town of Talisay, Batangas.  You can coordinate with their local Tourism Office for your tour.

My Comments:

From Tagaytay City, you can take a bus going to Taal Town and there you can visit one of the oldest churches in the Philippines, tour the historical sites and places as well as old or heritage houses in Taal Town. You can also visit their Barong Center and buy a few pieces of Barong and other embroidered clothes for men and women.

My stay in the Wind Residences Tagaytay was really memorable because the Airbnb host is a couple from our hometown - Myra and Ed, both were friends of my daughter Far. I thank Ed for picking me up from my hotel in Manila - Sea Residences of SM Development Corporation, driving me and my cousins Rose Diutay and her husband Mar to Tagaytay. The next day, Edmar picked us up and took me to the airport to catch my flight back home.

Thanks Myra and Edmar. Ciao'
