HOLLAND RIDGE FARM: WHEN THE EARTH BURST WITH JOY

By Henry Libo-on

Here comes the Sunflowers.
At this flower farm, the Sunflower Festival starts in September until around four (4) weeks.

But as early as the first week of April, this farm holds its Tulip Festival. The challenge of the Corona Virus pandemic, however, caused the modified tour during this Tulip Festival.

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder".  Margaret Wolfe Hungerford

“A garden to walk in and immensity to dream in--what more could he ask? A few flowers at his feet and above him the stars.”
― Victor Hugo, Les Misérables

At the onset of Fall, the Holland Ridge Farms is all set for the Sunflower Festival.  There, the Earth burst with joy as various species of flowers start to bloom.

So, we decided to drive to Holland Ridge Farms which is located at 86 Rues Rd, Cream Ridge, NJ 08514 to see its Sunflower Festival.
The picture above is just a part of the Sunflower Farm.  I also posted pictures of other species of flowers in bloom.

With sunflowers in the background, this "picture frame" is a favorite spot for group pictures and Selfies.

It took us almost the whole morning walking around the pathways leading to the different plots filled with blooming flowers like Gladiolas, Snapdragon, Zinnia, Celosia, Calla Lily, Cabbage, Mums and colored white, rust and yellow Sunflowers, among others.

The visitors are given a flower bucket and a shear. They can pick or cut the flowers of their choice and pay them at the Exit. This practice, however, will be modified this year, 2020, because of the coronavirus. Please click the link below to know this farm's newest way of accommodating the visitors and tourists.

There are trucks that sell hamburgers, fries, empanada, waffles, hotdog sandwiches, drinks and many more. Guests can choose to eat under the trees or the Lifetime like tables with attached benches.

After grabbing a sandwich, visitors can have a tour of the museum where old farm implements and tools are on display.  Near the Museum is a Theater where film-showing is held.  There is also a bakery and an ice cream parlor.

My grandchildren chose to ride the horse.

For me who visited many farms in the past, this one stood out on my list. Although there were vacant spaces between Plots that made it look like a barren spot, it became clear to me later that this is for the visitors to walk on.

I look forward to visiting Holland Ridge Farms in the Spring when they will hold their Tulips Festival.
