VICTORIAS CITY PORT

VICTORIAS CITY PORT
Daan Banwa, Victorias City
Negros Occidental, Philippines

Introduction

One of the determining factors of the economic progress of a country, province, or city is its Port. The rapid exchanges of goods and services, as well as the movement of people, can be achieved through the presence of an excellent functioning port.

For most, the presence of a Port enhances the integration of a locality into the country's economic system.

For many decades, the Port of Victorias had been the economic link between Victorias and the neighboring island of Panay. Exchanges of goods and agricultural products between Negros Occidental and Panay Island had been successfully performed by the port.

Today, the Port of Victorias continues to perform this role but its present condition needs an improved infrastructure. This includes a deeper port way and so there is a need that the riverway must be dredged to clear it from siltation. An improved port terminal is another aspect of port improvement in the future.

The road below connects the port terminal to the city proper.

At Daan Banwa, Victorias City, one of the oldest ports in the Province of Negros Occidental, business continues as usual. This makeshift carinderia had been doing business for more than 30 years.

My comments:

Victorias is the hometown of my mother. This is the reason why we frequented the town since I was a child growing up in Bacolod City. I have seen the growth of the town until it became a city.

Today, I visited the Daan Banwa to see for myself the condition of the town's port. Together with my cousin, Gloria, we explored this part of the town.

I saw, for myself, that the port must have been doing its role of transporting goods and passengers between Negros Occidental and Panay because of the presence of a Passengers' Terminal.

During this visit, I saw a Batea-like boat. It was big enough to carry cargoes and passengers and I think big enough to cross the sea to Panay

I wish that I could ride this boat one day when I decide to cross the strait from Daan Banwa to Ajuy.

In the meantime, let us wait and see how far the port and these boats can go in its mission of serving the people of Victorias City and the neighboring towns and cities too.

This is Touristang Pobre saying, have a good day everyone.
