GAWAHON FALLS

 GAWAHON FALLS

Location: Gawahon Eco-Park, Barangay Gawahon, Victorias City, Philippines.

By Henry Libo-on

TP at Lake George, Upstate New York.

Introduction

Gawahon Falls is part of the development program of Gawahon Eco-Park which was started by the local government of Victorias City during the administration of Mayor Severo Palanca, according to the reception desk of Gawahon Eco-Park.

How to get there?

Gawahon Falls is approximately 21 kilometers from the city proper. Victorias City is approximately 38 kilometers from Bacolod City, the capital of the Negros Occidental province.

What to do in Gawahon Eco-Park?

As of this writing, Gawahon Eco-Park or shall I call it - Resort, is being improved. Meaning, there was a construction that was going on - improvement of the cottages.

It is, therefore, suggested that before you go there, please coordinate with the city's tourism office.

Actually, Gawahon is ideal for the following activities like Seminar, Team Building, Camping, holding your event like Birthday, Wedding Reception, family bonding, overnight stay, and others.

Now, let us go back to our main topic - Gawahon Falls.

A few minute-drive from Gawahon Eco-Park or the Resort is Gawahon Falls. It is located at the end of the road. The Falls is, I guess, located on the western side of Silay Mountain Range. The whole mountain area is part of the Northern Negros Natural Park which covers the towns and cities on this part of Negros such as: Victorias, Silay, E.B. Magalona, Murcia, Salvador Benedicto, Talisay, Cadiz, Sagay, Toboso, Calatrava, and San Carlos. The Park is centered on Mt. Mandalagan and Mt. Silay. This forest reserve was signed by then American Governor General Frank Murphy on April 28, 1935. From its original area of 107,727 hectares, it is now reduced to 80,454 hectares. (Wikipedia).

No wonder, the forest area around Gawahon Falls is so thick that monkeys, and different species of flora and fauna found it as their habitat. Gawahon had been frequented by Bird Watchers too.

My Comments:
1. We brought our food to be sure that we have lunch. The only seller I met that day was the guy who sells honey.

2. You have to bring your own car since Tricycles seldom go to the Resort.

3. The entrance fee is affordable for both person and car.

4. The Falls tend to be crowded. The water that flows from the falls, however, is distributed to a few man-made pools where visitors can immerse themselves in the cool water.
