NOTRE DAME BASILICA

This is the Notre Dame Basilica in Montreal, Canada.  This is also known among French-speaking people as Basilique Notre-Dame Montreal.
The Basilica was constructed in 1823 with James O' Donnell as the Architect.  Its design is known as Gothic Revival Architecture. This style is popular in England at the start of the 1740s.

This is the inside of the Basilica.  This picture was featured in Go! Montreal.  So many tourists from all over the world visit the Basilica whenever they are here in Montreal.  The Queue was very long at the time of my visit, so I decided to skip it hoping that I can go back to Montreal in the future.  There is an entrance fee to get inside the Church, $5 for adults and $4 for children.

This is just a portion of the tourists who visited the Basilica every day.

Not far from the Basilica is the Monument of Paul de Maisonneuve, the founder of Montreal. Here, shown below.

Paul Chomedey de Maisonneuve Monument.

Paul de Chomedey de Maisonneuve, officer, founder of Montréal(bap at Neuville-Sur-Vanne, France 15 Feb 1612; d at Paris, France 1676). He was chosen by the Société Notre-Dame de Montréal to found a missionary colony on Montréal I. The expedition, which included Jeanne Mance, left La Rochelle on 9 May 1641 and arrived at Québec late in 1641. Maisonneuve began construction of Ville-Marie[Montréal] in 1642 and within a year had established a fort for defense, a hospital, chapel, and lodging for about 70 persons who lived there.

This guy plays the guitar to the delight of tourists.

Isn't this novel?

More pictures showing the buildings around the Basilica.

There are hotels around the Basilica.

When I saw this sign I felt relaxed knowing that, finally, my feet could rest from walking since I was nearing the Basilica, haha.

How To Get There?

When you are in Montreal, you can use your GPS using this address:

110 Notre Dame Street West, Montreal, Quebec, H2Y 1T1, Canada.

My Tip:

Upon reaching the Basilica, join the queue of tourists who want to get inside the Basilica. That is if you want to see the interior of the Basilica.  Do not waste time as I did.  The Queue is becoming long as more tourists arrive by the minutes.  The entrance fee is $5 for adults and $4 for children.  The entrance fees may change after you read this, so better check that out at the Entrance.

Around the Basilica are historical sites and places.  A walking distance from the Basilica, you will reach a collection of bars and restaurants that offer international cuisines like Italian, Spanish, Asian, and others.  There are also government buildings in Old Port, Montreal, the Museums, the Railway Tracks, the Old Port itself where you can find a Park, the Saint Lawrence River and the Clock, the Zip Line, the River Boat Ride, the Ferris Wheel (sorry, I forgot how the locals call it), hotels, and many, many more.

Please do not forget your sunblock if you go there as of "blog time". You can also carry bottled water, snacks, and of course, your camera with an extra battery/charger.

In closing, visiting the Basilique Notre Dame is a good start to also discover the other sites and places around the Old Port Area.  I hope you will enjoy your tour of this historic place.
