REMEMBERING OUR CONNECTICUT ADVENTURE

Tarrywile Park and Mansion

One of the most famous places to see in Danbury, Connecticut is the Tarrywile Park and Mansion. This place has a long history that dates back to the early days of Danbury and Connecticut.

According to the website of Tarrywile, the mansion was built in 1897 by Dr. William C. Wile. Tarrywile was taken from the expression "to tarry a while". Dr. Wile was a veteran of the Gettysburg who later on became the first chief medical examiner and benefactor of Danbury Hospital.

This 722 acres recreation park was sold by the Wile family descendants to the city of Danbury. The property includes 19 buildings, 535 acres of meadows, forests, mountains, lakes and ponds. Several species of flora and fauna inhabit this park. There is a 5 mile trail for hiking within the property. The Farmhouse, Carriage House, Gatehouse, Mountainville property, and other structures had been restored.

Since its opening to the public, Tarrywile Parks and Mansion became a favorite spot for family events like birthdays and weddings.

The wide parks has become the favorite spot for walking, meditation, photo ops for weddings, and family outings, as well as public and community events, among others.

Tarrywile Mansion opened to the public in 1990 as a community center of Danbury. There are so many things to see in the mansion. ( https://tarrywile.com/tarrywile-history/)
The Wile Mansion is shown above.

We explored the park, and we reached the Meditation Garden and the Sandy Moy Memorial Labyrinth. In one moment we saw the arrival of a limousine filled with well-dressed young boys and girls. At first glance, from afar, I thought it was a wedding entourage but I later on realized it could be a
quin·ce·a·ñe·ra.

Below is the photo of the Labyrinth that my son-in-law's cousins tried to trace.
In Greek mythology, the Labyrinth (Greek: Λαβύρινθος, Labýrinthos)[a] was an elaborate, confusing structure designed and built by the legendary artificer Daedalus for King Minos of Crete at Knossos. Its function was to hold the Minotaur, the monster eventually killed by the hero Theseus. Daedalus had so cunningly made the Labyrinth that he could barely escape it after he built it.[1]
In English, the term Labyrinth is synonymous with "maze".   (Wikipedia.)

The Gazebo, shown hereunder, was constructed in 1999. It is located on the upper Mansion orchard area. It is a favorite spot for small lawn concerts, story hours, wedding ceremonies and family photographs. (tarrywile.com)

A tour around Danbury brought me to this lakeside park, shown hereunder, where there is a picnic area, playground, restroom, and a docking area for small boats, among others.

Nice view.

Hi guys, it is nice to reminisce our trip on this park in Danbury.

The Korean War Veterans Park is another place I visited in Danbury. Earlier on this tour, Moi and Nonoy made a "running tour" of Danbury. We passed by the City Hall, the Library, the housing area, the church, and rows of restaurants, convenience stores, gas stations, church, colonial houses, and Lotto Seller, among others. I believe in the Lady Luck that is why I tried to buy Lotto tickets in the places I visited...haha....

Danbury is, for me, a peaceful place to live in.  I later on found out from the internet that Danbury is also called the most "livable city" in this part of Connecticut. It is about an hour, more or less, to New York City and about two hours from New Jersey.

The Veterans Memorial Park. Korean War Memorial.

Other than historical sites and places, Connecticut is known as the home of 14 Billionaires who contributed to the growth, development and progress not only of Connecticut but the United States as a whole. In one of our trips around Danbury and its suburbs, Nonoy pointed to me the house of Martha Stewart. I laughed at the knowledge that she lived in Connecticut because, in my house, our plates and mugs were by Martha Stewart. Just sharing this guys.

Reminiscing the things that we do in the past can help us put more values and gratefulness to the experience that we shared with our family and friends.

There are so many things to do during the Summer to make the season more rewarding and education-filled experience for our children and adults too. So, travel while you can but don't forget to wear your mask, observe social distancing, avoid closed and crowded places, and do handwashing as the need arises. Have a pleasant adventure guys.

I hope this story will inspire you to travel more because travel can help us learn and increase our awareness of the beauty of nature, environment, and humanity.

Ciao'.
