JOLLIBEE AT VIRGINIA BEACH
Introduction
It was one of those weekdays when my children have the free time to spend with their kids, so they decided that we spend a few days at Virginia Beach which is around 335 miles from where we live or around five to six hours drive. My daughter Tsa and son-in-law Nick together with my "apo" Coco, Mai, and Ina drove the roads to Virginia. We passed by one of the longest bridges in the U.S. the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. It is a major dual span bridge in this part of the United States.
Virginia is one of the most visited states in the U.S. and one of the reasons I learned is that there are many historical sites and places to see there. The reason? Virginia is one of the original 13 states that was permanently settled by the English in 1607 when Jamestown was established.
It was, however, the Spanish Explorers who reached Virginia in 1500s, when it was occupied by the Algonquian, Iroquoian, and Siouan peoples, the native Americans. (Source: historydotcom and Wikipedia.)
Virginia is also the state home of the founding fathers like George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, among others. For me, Thomas Jefferson was an unforgettable figure because of his "all men are created equal" statement, which I read on the writings at the Jefferson Memorial in Washington, D.C.
Location:
According to visitvirginiabeach.com, the Virginia Beach Boardwalk is located on the "oceanfront that stretches three miles from 20th to 40th Street and features a separate bike path, ideal for strolling, rollerblading, and biking".
Along the Boardwalk there are outdoor restaurants and vendors that also offer Bike and Surrey rentals. We went there this Summer, and there are nightly entertainment or musical live acts, specifically in the areas along 7th, 17th, 24th and 31st Street.
Along the Boardwalk there are several Nautical Sculptures like giant shell, fishes, and the twenty-four foot, 20-ton bronze statue of King Neptune. It stands on the 31st Street, the gateway to the Neptune Festival Park.

Since we are staying in a nearby hotel, I had a lot of time to move around along Pacific Avenue and Atlantic Avenue where most hotels, restaurants and bars, grocery stores, pharmacy, convenience store, souvenir shops, and many others are located.
Before reaching 7-Eleven there is Subway, but I think it was not captured in this photo.
Things to prepare before going to Virginia:
Prior to our road trip to Virginia, we inquired about their health protocols. Then we booked an Airbnb so that we can have the whole house for ourselves, adults and children. We also researched on several restaurants with outdoor service, among others.
Since we are all vaccinated, we just strictly follow the wearing of masks, handwashing, social distancing, and avoided Closed and Crowded places.
Things to do at Virginia Beach.
As a travel writer and blogger in the Philippines, I can list a lot of things to do in any place that I am going to visit. This time, however, age is catching up on this "Senior"....haha. So, I just focus on those places which my children and grandchildren as well as family relatives wanted to visit. Our itinerary had been Busch Gardens, Water Country U.S.A., the Philippines' world-famous restaurant Jollibee, the Boardwalk at Virginia Beach, as well as the downtown area in the Atlantic Avenue and Pacific Avenue, among others.
A souvenir picture of my "apo" with Jollibee, the anthropomorphic bee mascot dressed in red blazer and a chef's hat. Jollibee found another "home" in Virginia Beach, VA.
Few years ago, we visited the old historic place called Williamsburg and visited the William and Mary University. We saw other places that are historically significant like the Governor's Mansion, the armory, the pubs, post office, colonial government buildings, market, and many more.
In Virginia Beach, I failed to visit the Atlantic Wildfowl Museum and Surf and Rescue Museum. We, however, had lunch at the famous Bubba's Crabhouse & Seafood Restaurant.
This is Bubba's Seafood & Restaurant outdoor service area. It is facing the Lynnhaven River where yachts and boats pass by on their way to the sea.

I captured this photo while dining in the open dining area of Bubba's that faces the Lynnhaven River. Nearby is a Marina, a harbor with moorings for pleasure crafts (yachts) and small boats.
Bubba's is also our exit point to cross the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel on our way to Delaware. The bridge is the longest in this part of the United States. Travel time from U.S. Naval Reserve Little Creek Amphibious Base, passing by the Bridge to Capeville, Eastern Shore National Wildlife Refuge, is around twenty minutes more or less. I hope my estimate is correct.

Conclusion
After a few days in Virginia Beach, we went to our next destination, the Peach Festival at Wyoming, Delaware. But on our way to Delaware, my children decided that we eat lunch at Bubba's Crabhouse & Restaurant. So, I had the chance to experience dining in Shore Drive and facing the Lynnhaven River where a Marina for yachts and boats is located.
I hope you find my story about Virginia Beach informative and entertaining. At least, if you have not been here or you want to revisit the area, this story will inspire you to make it soon. Summertime is the best time to be here.
