VITO PORT TO MOLOCABOC ISLANDS

 VITO PORT TO MOLOCABOC ISLANDS

Introduction

Are you thinking of going for an adventure to Molocaboc Islands but don't know how to start? Well, let's talk about it and see if it is easy to go to the island.

Let us agree that you are in Sagay City, ok? Maybe you are from Bacolod City, San Carlos City or other towns and cities in Negros Island or perhaps in the neighboring islands and islets to this Negros Island Region, hmmm, why not?

A day after Christmas, I went to Vito Port, after my Visita Iglesia at San Vicente Ferrer Church here in Vito. I was surprised to see around five (5) Outrigger Boats loaded with passengers that were all going to Molocaboc Island. Most of these passengers are locals and a few where tourists.

The Coast Guard Office

At the end of the port facing Molocaboc Island is a small office of the Coast Guard where you can also find a restroom. The long covered area is where I saw the waiting passengers to board their Outrigger Boats. I also joined them and in fact, interacted with them about their trip to the island. Some of them were, of course, tourists or young adventurers while most of the passengers were locals or residents of the island.

How to get there?

Ceres Bus Company services most of the towns and cities in Negros Island. So, if you came from Bacolod, there is a bus that service the Bacolod-San Carlos City routes. Take that bus. Some of these buses are air-conditioned and with restroom.

Just inform the Driver or "Konduktor" that you will disembark at "Bangga Vito". From there, you can take the Tricycle (motocycle with side car), going to Vito. Before you "jump" into the Tricycle, be sure to ask the Driver how much you have to pay. I'm sure it is less than a hundred peso. From the Bangga Vito, the travel time is more or less 10 minutes to Barangay Vito proper.

My comment:

I carried my camera for "still photo", so to speak, but I forgot to use it, and  my cellphones too. All I recorded were videos. Haaayyyyy, senior moment, haha....

The Port

Today, I saw an improved port. It now has an extended concrete wharf that will enable more Outrigger Boats to dock and load goods and passengers. It is different or it has leveled up from what I saw in the mid '90s when I visited Jomabo Island.

 The Outrigger Boats

Bigger boats that can accommodate 20-30 passengers are available on the port. There are also Outrigger Boats which are dedicated for cargoes like construction materials, food supplies, and groceries which, I am sure, will find its way into several sari-sari stores or convenience stores on the island.

The Boat Fare

It is affordable. I was told by the boat owner that the boat fare is P50.00 of less than a U.S. Dollar if the exchange rate is $1.00 to P55.00 Philippine Pesos.

Travel time from Vito Port to Molocaboc Island is between 30-45 minutes depending on the condition of the sea. Most of the time, the sea is calm in the morning.

**Most of the Boats stay overnight on the island, therefore, tourists must look or arrange for their homestay in advance. Unlike before, there are lodging houses on the island which are mostly located in the Barangay Proper.

Visitors who are not staying overnight, must arrange with the Boatman regarding the Round Trip boat fare if they intend to go back to the port after their tour of Molocaboc Island.

Transportation from Vito to Bacolod City

If you are going back to Bacolod City or San Carlos City, you must take the Tricycle from Vito to national highway also known as "Bangga Vito".

From Bangga Vito, you can take the Ceres Bus to your desired destination. If you are going north of Negros Occidental you must take the bus going to San Carlos City, and if you are going south of Negros Occidental you must take the bus going to Bacolod City.

Sometimes the Ceres Bus (non-aircon) makes a trip from Vito to Bacolod City. This "sometimes" refer to a Friday morning. You can ask the locals to verify the schedule of the Ceres from Vito to Bacolod City.
